Barista Volunteers - (Thursday's) - No experience needed, training provided!

About Indepen-dance

We are an award-winning inclusive dance company for disabled and non-disabled people to enjoy, express and fulfil their potential through dance. Throughtout the company we offer Weekly Classes, Outreach, Education, Performance, Training and Volunteering Opportunities.

Abou the Role – Barista Volunteer

Please note we are currently looking for a volunteer with availability for each week on Thursdays

The role of Barista Volunteer is an opportunity to learn and develop barista skills in a placement role while supporting our charity. You will learn how to make, prepare and serve coffee from our menu using our espresso machine and equipment. Our Coffee Hut is located from our venue in Bridgeton for takeaway coffee with an outdoor seating space.

About – Coffee Hut

Our Coffee Hut is a volunteer-led project, supported by donations from Glasgow Coffee Roasters – Tin Donkey, with all proceeds going directly to our charity – Indepen-dance, to support the work we do in providing inclusive dance opportunities to disabled and non-disabled people.

Duties – to give an idea of what is involved while volunteering:

Take part in Barista induction, training and practice
Prepare Coffee Hut for opening for the day
Prepare Coffee from Menu and serve customers
Cash handling and monitoring stock
Cleaning throughout and closing Coffee Hut for end of day
Support and share skills with new Volunteers

Time and Commitment:

Coffee Hut Opening Hours are Monday to Friday from 10am-2pm.
The role is flexible, and we ask volunteers to commit to a weekly/fortnightly shift on a volunteering basis agreed beforehand, we would recommend you attend weekly when starting the role to keep up practice with new barista skills.
Shifts are agreed on set days - 2 or 4 hours long once per week

Support for Volunteers

We want all our volunteers to feel welcome, confident, and supported while taking part.

You’ll receive an induction and hands-on barista training from experienced staff and volunteers.
Ongoing supervision and feedback will be available to help you build your confidence and develop your skills.
You’ll have regular opportunities to share ideas, reflect on your experience, and ask questions.
We’ll make sure any access or support needs are discussed and met wherever possible.
Volunteers are also encouraged to get involved in team activities and wider Indepen-dance events throughout the year.

If you are interested, please click the ‘Apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out, then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on [email protected]

You’ll receive a confirmation email acknowledging your application.
The volunteer coordinator will get in touch (by email or phone) to arrange a short chat about the role, your interests, and any support needs.
If it’s a good match, you’ll be invited to an induction session at our Bridgeton venue, where you’ll meet the team and learn more about the Coffee Hut.
You’ll then agree on your shift times and begin volunteering with our ongoing support.
