You may need a PVG/Disclosure check before you start your volunteering role.
What you need to know:
A Disclosure (PVG) check is an in-depth background check used by employers or voluntary organisations on behalf of applicants to ensure they are suitable for a particular role. At this level, it shows unspent and relevant spent conviction information, and possibly other relevant details if available.
The PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) scheme is administered by Disclosure Scotland. It ensures that individuals deemed unsuitable to work with children and/or protected adults are barred from doing so. If you are engaged in regulated work for an organisation, it is advisable to undergo a PVG check for each organisation you are involved with.
Depending on the role, you may not require a PVG check and may instead fall under the criteria for a Basic, Standard, or Enhanced disclosure. These checks will reveal some of the information available on a PVG, depending on the level of disclosure requested.
- If you are a volunteer seeking more information on how to obtain a disclosure check for the role you are applying for, please consult the organisation you are applying with.
- If you represent an organisation that requires more information on the Disclosure Checks process or enrolling your organisation with Volunteer Scotland Disclosure Services, please visit the Volunteer Scotland website.
