Kirriemuir Food Hub is a non-profit voluntary run organisation based in the centre of Kirriemuir. Their mission is to help combat food insecurity and reduce food waste by repurposing and redistributing food. With overlapping goals, we began working in partnership in September of 2020, to better the environment and enhance the community as a team.
Continually developing and expanding their operations, Kirriemuir Food Hub is now registered with the HUBBUB Community Fridge Network. This means that a proportion of the food saved from waste is available for anyone in the local area to collect and use, giving us all a chance to do our bit to address local food waste. So, next time you are in the town, make sure to nip into the hub and see what’s available! If using the Community Fridge, donations are welcome to help the food hub in addressing food insecurity. A suggested donation is a tin from the cupboard or a spare toilet roll.
During the first year of our partnership, over 17 tonnes of food has been saved from waste and redirected via the hub for people just like you to eat and enjoy! This is the equivalent of saving more than 60 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which is like driving an average car from Kirriemuir to Forfar more than 20,000 times. Wow!
