NSPCC wants to bring an end to the devastating effect that child abuse has on individuals, their families, communities and society. Over 200,000 children in Scotland have experienced abuse by the time they are 18. Yet only 2,500 children are on child protection registers. Limited resources mean the majority of child protection agencies concentrate on dealing with the aftermath of abuse. The NSPCC is adding value to child protection in Scotland by providing preventative services which aim to identify vulnerable families sooner and intervene before abuse starts or intensifies. Through working with the children most at risk we will learn what works best to prevent abuse and to help children recover from abuse. Our work across communities heightens awareness of abuse and its devastating effect and society’s responsibility to act. We will share what we learn with others to ensure that our mission to protect the childhoods of Scotland’s next generation is realised.
