Charity registered in Scotland SC033307
The Aviation Preservation Society of Scotland (APSS) is a charitable unincorporated association, founded in 1973. Its core objectives are to promote the preservation, conservation and restoration of aircraft and other aviation artefacts, and to advance the education of the public in these matters.
APSS helps the National Museum of Flight (NMF) at East Fortune to prepare and conserve its collection, recently completing major projects on the NMF's Boeing 707, BAC 1-11, Avro Vulcan and de Havilland Comet, and working now on its Avro Anson and Fairchild (Bristol) Bolingbroke. APSS is also nearing completion of its new-build Sopwith 1½ Strutter — a 1916 design that is being faithfully reproduced (in full flying condition) from the original drawings.
The society has about 100 members, of whom thirty or so are active at East Fortune. It produces a magazine, The Fortune Teller, for its members, and also a regular newsletter, and its website — www.apss.org.uk — has recently been enhanced significantly to disseminate information and encourage participation.
