Lead Volunteer

Lead Volunteers are essential to the running of our shop. Be involved in the planning and running of the shop, such as risk assessments, fire escape routes, volunteer health and safety, team involvement, supporting in events and pop-up stalls, and the responsibility of the day to day running of the shop in the absence of the shop manager.

All Sue Ryder Shop Volunteers have the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of the day to day running of the store including but not limited to….


  • Sorting and pricing stock

  • Stock replenishment

  • General customer service

  • Till work

  • Window Dressing

  • PAT Testing

  • Ebay and social media use


Our lead volunteers receive an enhanced level of training enabling them to take on additional levels of responsibility. This training is both in the store with colleagues, and via eLearning.


Experience required

To be confident to take on additional responsibility on an ad-hoc basis.
To be happy to take the lead and happy to make decisions.
To be a good communicator who can work with teams of mixed abilities.
Excellent customer services.
Willingness to attend training sessions to keep up to date and compliant with our ways of working.

The additional training and practical experience included in our Lead Volunteer Programme provides an excellent platform for moving into paid work in the retail sector.
