This long-established Moray charity is seeking a volunteer to a two-hour shift on Thursdays in the store at Elgin Business Centre in the town's old railway station from 9am to 11am. An alternative day might be possible.
Volunteers, who man the store alone, accept and sort donations of pre-loved goods brought in by members of the public and make up starter packs for a wide range of local people who have been homeless and are moving into their own new tenancies, often with very few of the basic necessities that make a house a home. These packs are then collected at prearranged times by housing support officers employed by the local authority, Women's Aid and other agencies.
This small local charity serves a vital role in the Moray area, not only by providing indispensable support to individuals and families who for a variety of reasons find themselves in dire need of a helping hand at what can be a critical moment in their lives, but also by 'recycling' used and good-as-new household goods which might otherwise be destined for landfill.
In assembling a pack for a particular recipient, volunteers can have a sense that they are making a very real and worthwhile difference to someone's life in their own local area.

Experience required

Life skills; using telephone; very basic computer skills (preferably including Microsoft Office/Outlook at a simple level). As the Store volunteer works alone, it is essential that they are happy to do this and are reliable.
