We're looking for volunteers who can help us welcome people to the hospice on weekends and bank holidays.

Make a meaningful difference every day.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Marie Curie. We’re currently seeking compassionate and committed individuals on weekends and bank holidays to support the day-to-day running of our Glasgow hospice and help create a warm, welcoming environment for patients and their families.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a hospice volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring smooth operations and providing comfort to those in our care. Your tasks may include:

General administration: filing, photocopying, collating and sorting documents.
Using computer programmes such as Microsoft Office to complete tasks.
Monitoring and maintaining stationery supplies.
Greeting visitors and patients with warmth and professionalism.
Receiving deliveries and notifying relevant staff.
Answering phone calls politely and passing on messages.
Respecting confidentiality around patient details and hospice records.
Escorting visitors around the hospice.
Supporting communication between families and staff.
Assisting with drinks, food, and transport arrangements for patients.
Helping with other related tasks as needed.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome volunteers who bring:

Friendly, confident people skills.
Good computer literacy, including Word, Excel and databases.
Strong communication and organisational abilities.
A clear and courteous telephone manner.
Solid literacy and numeracy.
A commitment to high standards and excellent service.
Reliability and responsibility.
An understanding of confidentiality.
Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of those affected by end-of-life care.

What You’ll Gain

A rewarding opportunity to develop your skills in a respected charity setting.

Full induction, training, and ongoing support.

Reimbursement of agreed reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.

What We Ask of You

Two references from non-family members and any relevant documents.

Adherence to Marie Curie’s policies and guidelines.

Completion of induction and any role-related training.

How to Get Involved:

For more information or if you have any questions about this volunteer role, please contact Nicola McGuiness Scotland Admin Manager at nicola.mcguinness@mariecurie.org.uk. We can't wait to welcome you to our team and work together to support a cause that truly matter.

Marie Curie is committed to its values, which underpin our work. We take stringent steps to ensure that the people who join our organisation through employment or volunteering, are suitable for their roles and are committed to safeguarding all our people from harm. This includes our staff, volunteers and all those who use or come into contact with our services. We are dedicated to creating not just a safe place to work but also a supportive and rewarding one.

We are committed to a world where everyone can thrive and fulfil their potential. We are devoted to the social justice imperatives and organisational benefits of full diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace, and are a Stonewall champion. We actively encourage and welcome applications from candidates of diverse cultures, perspectives and lived experiences.

Experience required

We're looking for volunteers with good people skills, who are friendly, outgoing and confident. An understanding of the issues around end of life care and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality in a healthcare setting will be important, as will reliability and commitment. We are looking for people who are empathic and able to deal sensitively with difficult queries from our service users.
