Young Carers Voluntary Support Worker (x3 for Stirling, Urban & Kippen Areas)

Stirling Carers Centre offers a service to unpaid carers in the Stirling Council area, irrespective of the condition of the person they care for. The services offered include: information, support, advice, welfare benefit checks, advice on rights and entitlements, etc. We also have a Young Carers Project that supports young carers aged between 7 to 18 years old through group work day trips and residentials (overnight short breaks) and the provision of 1:1 personal support in the school environment.

The young carers referred to our service join our age specific groups - these give the young carers a vital break from their caring role and enable them to mix with others like themselves. Our groups, day trips and residentials are supported by volunteers without whom we could not provide such valuable services.

The Young Carers Voluntary Support Workers will help with our Young Carers Groups, day trips and residentials. This involves working with the Young Carers Officer and staff to support the planning and running of group activities and in the day trips and residentials many of which take place during the school holidays.

This role is very rewarding and makes a real difference to the lives of these young people - it provides volunteers with an opportunity to build on or learn new skills and increase confidence in working with young people.

Ability to relate to young people, able to deal with sensitive situations, able to work as part of a team willing to play games and have fun at the group with the young carers willing to be involved in young carers day trips and residentials (overnight short breaks) can drive and has access to own transport (this is desirable not essential).
