Volunteer Coordinator

Bo'ness Car 4U is a free volunteer patient transport service for anyone registered with a Bo'ness Medical Practice who has been diagnosed with cancer. Volunteer drivers convey these patients from their home to their place of treatment and back again, and co-ordinators are behind the scenes making it all possible. Our efforts have been highly commended by patients who benefit hugely from this free service.

Our Volunteer Coordinators make all of this possible. They act as the first point of contact for the Medical Practice who refer the patient to us, and then allocate drivers for our free cancer patient transfer service. The time commitment is across 10 days a month on a rota basis, working from home in your own time, and we provide a laptop and mobile phone for the role.

More details include:

  • Patients phone their own GP’s receptionists with their name and phone number when they have an appointment date. The receptionist will then contact the BC4U co-ordinator to pass on the patient’s contact details.

  • Co-ordinators then contact the patient to gather relevant information such as place of treatment, appointment schedule, whether they require any assistance or accompanied at the hospital and organise documentation. This information is recorded confidentially on our systems.

  • The co-ordinator then contacts a driver to ascertain if they are available for the given date(s), and gives the patient’s details.

  • Training will be given in the use of our basic IT system.

This is an incredibly rewarding role that is very flexible but makes a huge difference to individuals and is vital for the continuance of Bo'ness Car4U. If you are interested or would like more details then please let me know!
