English (ESOL, EFL) tutor/teacher to teach 1:1 or small groups of internationals and New Scots living in Scotland

We are looking for some compassionate and enthusiastic teachers of English as a foreign language to improve practical English language skills of migrants and newcomers to Scotland.

'Knowing that for many of the students, having English language skills means that they can progress in their studies and careers - it is rewarding to feel that, as part of SSE, I am helping them to move forward.' (Catherine, volunteer tutor)

The post would probably average out at 3 -4 hours per week, but it depends on preparation time. There are some light administrative tasks involved- record of work, assessment- and tutor meetings. Most classes follow the Headway coursebook series which we provide.

The minimum commitment is one semester (15/16 weeks). For in-person teaching, you can choose morning (Mon-Wed, 10-12:30) or evening classes (6:15-8:15 pm, Tue & Thu). Some classes will be online (various days excluding weekends) and some in-person. Online classes can be negotiated.

Induction will be given. You will also observe a few classes. Ongoing training is offered.
