Roots Sorting Space Team - Cambuslang

Do you love finding charity shop treasures? Do you have an eye for bringing tired clothing back to life as something new? Or maybe you prefer to work back stage and not in a customer-facing role. Why not Volunteer at R:evolve Roots! Our sorting space team members are the foundation of our organisation. They work together in teams supported by R:evolve staff to sort and process our clothing and textile donations making sure that everything gets to the correct place within R:evolve.

Joining the Sorting Space Team gives you first-look at all the donations we receive at the project – an added bonus!

As a R:evolve Sorting Space Team Member you will:


· Sort, steam, and prepare donations.
· Identify items to be sold in our online shop, or sold at thrift + gift, or upcycled and repaired at our community workshops.
· Prep clothing for events, displays, and photographing.
· Sort, price, and package items to be sold in thrift + gift or at Wee Jinty’s Haberdashery
· Carry out basic textile repair e.g, zip replacement, seam mending. (Only assigned to volunteers who feel comfortable doing so).
· Follow organisation procedures and policies.
· Attend occasional training refreshers and review meetings as required.
· Friendly and enthusiastic.
· Reliable and willing to commit to pre-agreed shifts.
· Happy to work individually or with staff and other volunteers.
· Confident in making decisions or able to ask others for help if needed.
· Interest in clothing, fashion, retail or similar.
· Interest in the R:evolve principles of swapping, sharing, reusing, mending, and upcycling or keen to learn more about these.
· Interest in climate change and environmentally friendly behaviours or keen to learn more about these.

The opportunity takes place at multiple location across South Lanarkshire
Cambuslang

Travel expenses

R:evolve Recycle will pay for all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, including travel, and pre-agreed upon materials purchase. If you volunteer for three hours or more, there is a small lunch allowance. Expenses are reimbursed via direct deposit upon submission of an approved expense form. Unfortunately, we cannot reimburse childcare expenses

Training details

Swap Shop volunteers are invited to attend 'experience days' where they shadow current volunteers as they run the shop. Staff-led shop training is given over 3 – 4 induction shifts, and covers an induction to the project, shop procedures, and Health & Safety.
