The Community toilets, an integral part of Biggar Corn Exchange, have been managed by a small volunteer Working Group since 2015. The service has run well - many users are very appreciative of the cleanliness and availability of the toilets and leave notes and messages to this effect. The appreciation of the community and visitors makes it a rewarding volunteer activity.
Some of the Working group members have been involved since 2015, and feel that it is time to step back. We are seeking some replacements within the next few months.
The Working Group (WG) is a sub-committee of Biggar Corn Exchange (BCE). It currently comprises a Chair, two BCE trustees and four others.
We employ professional cleaners, but WG members carry out the following operational activities:
• Ordering, receiving, storing and stock-checking consumable items (toilet paper, cleaning materials disinfectant, etc).
• Emptying cash from the automatic door (twice weekly) and honesty box; counting and banking takings.
• Checking facility daily for cleanliness and vandalism
• Locking facility and switching off lights at end of each day.
• Planning any late opening (e.g. at New Year)
• Collecting, emptying and replacing collecting boxes from numerous shops and premises around the town. Counting and banking the donations.
• Maintaining budget vs actual spreadsheets
We are very happy to chat to potential volunteers, and provide more detail about how they could become involved in supporting essential facility. Volunteers typically commit around 2 hours per week, but this can be varied to suit your own availability.
