Volunteer for Eating Disorder Collective Advocacy Project

Working as part of a collective advocacy team to raise awareness and speak about your own experiences of eating disorders. The role involves working with the collective advocacy development worker to deliver a lived experience workshop and facilitate a group discussion in various community settings throughout the Lothians including: universities, health etc. The role requires someone who is willing to share personal lived experience of an eating disorder of any kind, in order to educate and raise awareness around eating disorders; willingness to talk about and share experiences of eating disorders in various community settings including: universities, public events etc. Currently the group is also working on research and input into a new book around overcoming binge eating disorder.

Experience required

The person must have lived experience of an eating disorder.

Travel details

Meetings are in person in Edinburgh or online

Travel expenses

travel and lunch expenses are provided and are reimbursed immediately on receipt/by prior arrangement

Training details

Induction will be provided in the first two weeks of volunteering , regular mentoring sessions will be provided and training as required/agreed

Restrictions

Minimum age: 16
A young person with lived experience of an eating disorder of any kind. Willingness to share experience with other young people in a group setting, good communication skills, the ability to listen and respond to others.

Would require a commitment of 1 hour per week, this opportunity takes place on a Mon - Fri in the morning and afternoon.

Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
