Leith Conversation Cafés Volunteer

Feniks "Leith Conversation Cafes" project aims to encourage cultural bridging in Leith as well as improving the wellbeing of those involved. The 'Conversation Cafes' will be open, drop-in groups based in local community cafes, that welcome anyone to join in on respectful and friendly discussions of topics that matter to them. The triweekly groups will be organised and hosted by a coordinator and a small team of multilingual volunteers who will create a minimal structure.

Experience required

Volunteers must be friendly, welcoming and open-minded. Volunteers must have an interest in community development, an understanding of immigration issues and have a good level of spoken English as well as another language.

Travel details

The opportunity will take place within community cafes in Leith. The number 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 21, 22, 25 and 49 buses all go to Leith.

Travel expenses

Pre-paid bus tickets will be supplied weekly in advance. Refreshments will be provided and for one of the weekly sessions there will be a crèche for young children of attendees and volunteers ? ask Helen for more details.

Support
Training details

Volunteers can expect excellent training, skills development and support as well as fun, laughter and personal growth. Training will involve 3 induction sessions plus ongoing in-house learning workshops and external courses such as Mental Health First Aid or SafeTALK.
