Volunteer Befriender

The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland and Berwickshire Housing Association support BeFriend to help people living in Berwickshire and Kelso who are over the age of 65 to maintain social connections and engage with their local communities.

BeFriend does this with the invaluable help of a team of volunteers who:
• Support people to attend and engage with community events.
• Visit a befriendee on a one to one basis
• Do telephone Befriending
• Provide transport to community activities and outings
• Other volunteering opportunities using volunteers personal talents and expertise.

These voluntary roles can open up new opportunities and you will get so much in return: friendship, laughter and fun.

Volunteering has been shown to make a significant difference to peoples wellbeing and also gives something back to the community.

Volunteers are reimbursed for their mileage, and reasonable expenses. They also have access to information and support sessions to enhance their volunteer role.

Experience required

No particular experience is required, however, volunteers should be: Friendly, patient and caring. Be able to talk to people. Be able to listen to people. Be able to turn up on time. Understand confidentiality. It would be useful if you have a car, but you do not have to.

Travel expenses

Travel expenses are reimbursed, as are the cost of refreshments taken if out in the community with your befriendee.
