Peer Research Volunteer

We are looking for any interested individuals with lived or living experience of substance use in the East
Dunbartonshire area.
Here is a bit of information about the role we are currently recruiting for:
Peer research is one of the ways SDF include people with living or lived experience of substance use in
shaping and conducting research across Scotland.
Volunteers support research projects by gathering insights into the real experiences, opinions and
challenges faced by people who use substances and/or services.
Some of the activities peer researchers take part in include:
Carrying out interviews and surveys (in person or over the phone)
Supporting focus groups
Reaching out to services to recruit participants
Helping to design questionnaires and analyse data
No previous experience is needed, and full training and support will be provided. The main things we’re
looking for are an interest in research and a willingness to learn and contribute.

Travel details

In East Dunbartonshire sometimes other localities if suitable and meeting in Glasgow every 6 weeks - all
travel expenses are reimbursed

Travel expenses

Any public transport costs can be reimbursed on the day with the ticket. If we are in the community
interviewing over lunch then this will be paid for by the staff member accompanying

Training details

We have an induction week for all new volunteers where we get to know each other, provide info on the
organisation and the peer research model. Basic training is also provided that week such as health and
safety, GDPR and types pf research. Training is ongoing with development sessions every 6 weeks. We
encourage volunteers contributions o planning training over the year but these are things like trauma
informed practice, data analysis, mental health and wellbeing, digital skills etc Each volunteer has a named
person in the team that provides support and one to ones every 6 - 8 weeks

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
