Session Supporter

Launched in 2011, Sporting Memories is a charity that supports a wide range of
people aged 50+, including those living with dementia, depression or who are
isolated and lonely. The club sessions aim to improve members mental and physical wellbeing by helping them to reminisce about sport and to get involved in some light physical activity.

The group are dedicated to bringing older people with the aim of making a positive difference in their lives by providing them with a welcoming, supportive and structured environment where they can develop confidence to improve their lives for the better.

The Session Supporter helps the lead volunteer at our clubs to set up the
room (put out tables and chairs) and to run the session by helping club members to become involved in the session. Some may need encouragement
to talk and get involved. They usually have 3 volunteers who work as a team to
support and help members.

The Hawkhill Club meets weekly on a Tuesday from 13.30-1500.
Support for Volunteers is provided by the area Coordinators and Volunteer
Coordinator

Experience required

They need volunteers with an ability to communicate well with others and to support members who have memory or physical health problems. The most important skill is to be able to listen and to encourage participants to engage and get involved in the discussion.
