Thank you for your interest in our Centre Support Volunteer Role.

Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer.
Kind, Caring, Compassionate? Our Centre Support Volunteers are directly involved with visitors to our Drop-In areas within our Centres (Kilmarnock and Ayr), offering support in a safe and positive environment during our opening hours between Monday and Friday.

There is also continuous support from our staff and other volunteers. Volunteer coverage is provided between 9.00am to 1.00am or 1.00pm to 5.00pm on a chosen day or days of the week.

 Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.
 Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.
 Display patience and understanding.
 Are caring, empathetic, and have a sensitive approach.
 Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.
 Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support

We ask our Centre Support Volunteers to…
 Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Centre Support Volunteer.
 Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.
 Offer a warm welcome in our Drop-In area(s).
 Put visitors and patients at ease, providing a listening ear with an understanding manner.
 Offer and prepare light refreshments (tea/coffee/water/juice).
 Be familiar with the services offered by ACS.
 Handle and receipt monetary donations received within our centres.

Our Centre Support Volunteers offer emotional support, but must not offer advice or medical opinion on a patient’s treatment. Our Volunteers are in place to complement the work of staff and are not used to replace roles normally undertaken by employees. Associated Travel Expenses will be reimbursed.
