Befriender

They are looking for volunteer befrienders to help them expand their growing service. Volunteer befrienders provide one to one befriending to a socially isolated older person, visiting them in their home and/or taking them out to take part in activities in their local community. This could be popping in once a week for a cup of tea or supporting the befriendee to become more confident or join in community activities. This role is to:


  • meet with an older person once per week for a mutually agreed length of time


  • encourage involvement in activities, being mindful of the befriendee's abilities and limitations



  • maintain confidentiality regarding befriendee information



  • take part in mandatory induction training and any other relevant training



  • take part in planned regular reviews with LinkLiving staff



  • ensure relevant expenses are claimed and receipts are kept on a monthly basis



  • attend induction training and any other training relevant to the post



  • operate within LinkLiving policies and procedures and any other relevant guidelines and Legislation.



  • raise any concerns regarding members’ wellbeing with LinkLiving staff




Please note, volunteer befrienders will not be asked to meet any personal care needs


Travel details

This is a weekly commitment, timings to be agreed between the befriendee and befriender.

South West Fife, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Levenmouth and Taybridge.

Volunteers will be matched with someone in their area.


Travel expenses

Public transport costs will be reimbursed, or mileage to and from befriendee’s home and social café venue (45p per mile).

Support
Training details

They provide full induction training plus any other training which may be relevant e.g. first aid, manual handling health & safety, food hygiene, dementia awareness as well as many other options. They offer extensive training opportunities and regular meetings with other befrienders and Real Living volunteers. Real Living also offer twice yearly outings for everyone involved in the project as well as support and supervision from the Project Workers
