Companion Service Lead Volunteer- Greater Glasgow

The Companion Service matches specially trained volunteers with people in their community who are affected by a terminal illness, providing company, emotional support and help with the little things that can make a big difference.

We're looking for a volunteer who is passionate about improving the lives of people at risk of social isolation to help us run our service. You will be working directly with the Volunteer Services Coordinator and the wider Community Engagement Team at Marie Curie to help us identify the best sources for referrals, promote our service to the community across Greater Glasgow and match clients with a suitable volunteer.

We will provide you with full training when you join, and access to the relevant IT systems. You will also be issued with a personal safety device for working out in the community and training in topics relevant to our service.

This is a great role for someone who has an interest in health and social care or who wants to have a direct impact on the experiences of people who are receiving palliative care in the community across Greater Glasgow. If this sounds like the role for you then we would love to hear from you today.

Experience required

Our ideal volunteer will have great organisational and communication skills as well as good basic IT and office skills. An understanding of the needs of people affected by a terminal illness will be useful, and the ability to deal sensitively with the needs of our clients will be essential. Empathy, warmth and a sense of humour will be important. Our ideal volunteer will have good local knowledge and be comfortable engaging with a wide range of people. Driving will be useful but is not essential.
