Join Our Team: Become a Volunteer Community Independent Advocate with Partners in Advocacy

Partners in Advocacy is seeking 5 dedicated Community Independent Advocacy Volunteers to play a pivotal role in our journey toward championing human rights in Edinburgh. By providing independent advocacy to people 16+ you will directly contribute to defending the human rights of some of the most vulnerable adults in the Edinburgh community. This is your chance to be part of a meaningful cause, where your skills can make a significant difference in the lives of others. Training on our service and independent advocacy will be provided.

Location: Enjoy a flexible hybrid volunteering role, volunteering at a range of locations throughout Edinburgh and from home.


Hours: A minimum commitment of 2+ hours per week is expected with the option to volunteer as much or as little as you like to make a real difference to people's human rights.


The Role:
To deliver independent advocacy on a one-to-one basis for adults 16 plus with a learning or physical disability and for older people; to ensure that their views and wishes are heard, and they are more able to make informed choices so that they influence decisions that affect their lives. Comprehensive training will be provided.


We Are Looking For:
Individuals aged 16+ with a passion for human rights.
A commitment to the empowerment and inclusion of marginalised groups and a sound value base about the rights of disadvantaged people.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen reflectively, and to communicate sensitively and appropriately with a variety of people.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, creativity, and a keen ability to organise.
Creativity, resourcefulness, perseverance, patience, confidence, and energy; an ability to volunteer independently, take responsibility for own time management, and be reliable and punctual.
Ability to effectively advocate for your advocacy partner while maintaining boundaries and professionalism at all times.
