Are you looking to make a real difference in someone's life?
Provide invaluable one-on-one companionship and support to individuals with terminal illnesses and their families across the UK.
What You’ll Do:
• Conduct weekly visits as agreed with the Volunteer Coordinator.
• Report significant changes or happenings to your manager.
• Submit regular visit reports and update relevant systems.
• Attend individual sessions, training, and group events as required.
• Represent the Marie Curie Companion service positively.
• Provide a listening ear and one-to-one companionship through conversation, activities, or hobbies.
• Spend quality time with those you’re supporting, whether at their home, in a care home, or out in the community.
• Allow primary caregivers to take short breaks, giving them time to rest and recharge.
• Drive clients to pre-arranged medical appointments or for short trips out.
*Note: Volunteers do not provide nursing, personal care, counselling, or advice.

Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Companion Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.

Travel details
When matching you with someone, we will consider your ability to travel and the distance from your home. You can choose to use your own vehicle or public transport.
Travel expenses
Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed, including travel at 45p per mile for personal vehicle use or public transport costs with receipts. Reimbursements are paid monthly directly to the volunteer.

Support
Training details
Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers wishing to apply. We provide one full day training and induction session that covers all of the information relevant to the role.

Minimum age: 18
Availability
Frequency & commitment
3 hours per week.
Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
