Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Volunteer

Angus Council’s Vibrant Communities Team are looking to recruit volunteers to support the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in schools and in the community.

Volunteers are essential for the effective delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme which provides young people with a range of personal and social development opportunities.

Volunteer helpers are people who can spare time to help DoE leaders to run groups. They give general support including administration and the delivery of training.

Not all volunteers are involved in the detailed running of the programme, but they do help to ensure continuity throughout and share responsibility for the overall quality of young people’s experience.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award operates in most secondary schools in Angus and there are open units in the community.

The level of commitment required from volunteers is negotiable and successful volunteers will be placed with a unit which matches their availability, interests and location.

All volunteers will be expected to be able to:

• Work as part of a team
• Develop positive, constructive relationships with young people
• Communicate effectively
• Be responsible and dependable

The duties for all volunteers are likely to include:

• Establishing and maintaining positive, constructive and supportive relationships with young people and fellow volunteers
• Assisting young people to plan and progress through their award
• Assisting with the measurement of progress
• Assisting with general elements of organisation and administration
