Happy Steps Activity Coordinator Volunteer - Families in the Asylum Process

Scottish Refugee Council is committed to assisting asylum seekers and refugees to settle into life in Scotland. Our Services team is responsible for meeting with asylum seekers and refugees to provide direct advice on issues such as housing, benefits and finance, education, training and volunteering opportunities. This includes projects for newly arrived asylum seeking families, people whose claims for asylum have been refused and people granted leave to remain.

This volunteer role is for people who will be assisting with the Coordination of the Happy Steps Project within the Family Rights team. We are looking for volunteers who can communicate sensitively and effectively and build good relationships with families and children supported by the Family Rights team.

The purpose of this volunteer role is:


To help coordinate and arrange for activities for children
To help asylum seeking families and support access to wider services in collaboration with case managers


What will I be doing?
Help identify and plan child centred activities
Help carry out risk assessments in line with organisational policy and procedures
Engage with service users and use feedback to shape the delivery of the project
Assist in the implementation of feedback methods
Assist to arrange for children and parent focus groups to explore progress and seek suggestions for improving the service
Work effectively with interpreters, other volunteers, colleagues in the team and establish good working relationships with other teams in the Scottish Refugee Council, other refugee agencies and community groups
Assist Service Manager to deliver project outcomes including record keeping

Travel expenses
