Health In Mind

Health in Mind’s Peer Support Service supports adults from Ethnic Minorities, aged 18+, who want to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
As a Peer Support Volunteer, you will support someone on a one-to-one basis for up to six months for 1-2 hours per week. During this time, you will work with them to understand how they are feeling, and to explore what steps they can take to make positive changes.
Experience required
This is a peer volunteer role: we are looking for volunteers who identify as having had lived experience of mental health difficulties, identify as being from a minority ethnic, and an awareness of their own recovery journey.
Volunteers will also have:
• An understanding of positive mental health, and what helps
• A high level of self-awareness, and knowledge of self-care
• A friendly, non-judgmental attitude
• Good listening and communication skills
• A common sense approach and ability to take initiative
• An understanding of the importance of boundaries and confidentiality
• An ability to keep to organizational guidelines
Support
Training details
The training is usually run over four, 3 hour sessions, and will give you a chance to experience what the volunteer role will be like practically, and for us both to decide if the role is right for you.
Taster
Volunteer would be able to discuss the volunteer opportunity and ask any questions needed prior to starting recruitment process.
Restrictions
Minimum age: 18
Availability
Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
