Trusts and Foundations Support Volunteer

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in fundraising with a focus on trust fundraising, this role will provide the perfect foundation, allowing you to gain hands-on experience and develop key skills. Or perhaps you already have voluntary/professional experience in trust fundraising and want to use your valuable skills to give something back?

A significant amount of our funding comes from trusts and foundations, and the Trust Fundraising Volunteer can support our ambitious fundraising targets. The role will specifically support the Fundraising Manager (Trusts & Foundations) with lower-level funding applications, research and administration

Or perhaps you already have voluntary or professional fundraising experience and want to use your valuable skills to give something back?
You will have a chance to contribute to a charity that makes a real difference to the lives of people living with HIV and learn the basics of funding application writing and the principles of Trusts and Foundations fundraising.


The role will specifically support the Fundraising Manager (Trusts & Foundations) with lower-level funding applications, research, and administration. Reports to: Fundraising Manager (Trusts & Foundations)


Duties may include:
• Identify and research potential grants and funding opportunities for which Waverley
Care may be eligible for.
• Update the small trusts pipeline with information on Trusts and Foundations, including
application requirements and deadlines.
• Assist in drafting content for small trust grant applications.
• Help compose, send, and log donor communications and thank you letters.
• Maintain records and provide support with various administrative tasks.


We ask for approx. 4-5 hrs of your time per week ( this could be flexible) and a minimum commitment of 3 months. The role is home-based, with occasional travel to Waverley Care offices.


Support and training
You will be offered induction training and role-specific training as required. You will be supported
and managed in this role by the Fundraising Manager (Trusts & Foundations) and the wider
fundraising, communications, and service delivery teams.

Experience required

• Clear and persuasive writing skills
• Ability to present complex information in a clear and easily navigable format
• A keen eye for detail
• Basic research skills
• IT skills, especially MS Word and Excel at a basic level (sort, filter, basic formulas) or willingness and ability to learn

Travel details

Home-based with occasional travel to Waverley Care offices.

Travel expenses

Travel expenses are reimbursed if a volunteer wants to visit/work from our offices based in Edinburgh/Glasgow/Inverness (local travel only)
