Are you passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ young people across Scotland to flourish and thrive? Do you have an interest in strategy and governance and supporting the charity to develop into the future? If so, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for a number of enthusiastic and innovative people to join our vibrant board, leading the charity to supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex young people right across Scotland. These will be motivated and committed individuals who share the Charity’s values and bring expertise and experience at a strategic level.


You will need to attend four board meetings, an additional four sub-committee meetings and occasional additional events or meetings. In partnership with other board members you will be responsible for the good governance of the organisation and ensuring that LGBT Youth Scotland complied with relevant legislation.


This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the charity, ensuring strong governance and to make a lasting, and sometimes life-saving, impact for LGBTQ+ young people


We want to hear from you if you have specific skills across:


• Youth Work and Safeguarding
• Fundraising
• Marketing
• Digital Service Delivery
• Building a Social Enterprise


A strong profile in the third, public or corporate sector would be advantageous and we would be interested in those who may be interested in taking on the position of Vice Convener or Convener at an appropriate time.

Experience required

• Understand the strategic environment in which LGBT Youth Scotland operates and the strengths of the organisation.
• Shape the organisation’s strategic direction, with the staff of the organisation and stakeholders, and keep its work focused on achieving it.

• Provide effective oversight that supports work to improve the effectiveness of the organisation, maintains its viability and ensure that the organisation operates in accordance with the law.
• Use any individual knowledge and expertise they have to offer effective strategic advice to Board colleagues and the staff team.
• Act decisively where necessary to take difficult decisions.
• Communicate through their own behaviour a clear sense of the values of the organisation.
• Be a good employer.
• Be visible within the life of the organisation.
• Ensure a commitment to equalities is embedded in the policy and practice of the organisation.
• Safeguard the reputation of the organisation where necessary.
