The Warm-Space Volunteer plays a crucial role in supporting community members facing the cost-of-living crisis by providing a welcoming environment at The Whiteinch Centre. Volunteers will help facilitate the distribution of free food and drinks, ensuring that everyone feels comfortable, respected, and supported during their visit.
Key Responsibilities:
•Welcoming Guests: Greet visitors warmly as they arrive, offering a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
•Food and Drink Distribution: Assist in the preparation, serving, and replenishment of food and drinks, ensuring hygiene and safety standards are maintained.
•Support and Guidance: Provide information and guidance to guests about the services available at The Whiteinch Centre, including additional support resources.
•Maintaining Cleanliness: Help maintain a clean and organized space by assisting with cleaning duties before, during, and after each session.
•Monitoring Supplies: Keep track of food and drink supplies, and notify the coordinator when stocks are low.
•Building Relationships: Engage with guests to build a sense of community, offering a listening ear and emotional support when needed.
•Digital Access Support: Assist visitors in using digital devices, including computers, tablets, and smartphones. Help them navigate the internet, access online resources, and utilize digital tools effectively.
•IT Support: Provide basic IT support, such as troubleshooting device issues, setting up email accounts, and guiding visitors through software applications. Offer personalized assistance to those with limited digital skills.
•Resource Management: Ensure that digital resources and equipment are well-maintained, organized, and readily available for visitors. Report any technical issues to the community center staff promptly.
•Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with community members, listen to their needs, and offer empathetic support. Encourage a sense of community and mutual respect among visitors.
Experience required
• Empathy and Patience: Ability to understand and empathize with the diverse needs of community members, demonstrating patience and kindness in all interactions.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to effectively explain digital concepts and provide clear instructions.
• Technical Proficiency: Basic understanding of digital devices and common software applications. Willingness to learn and stay updated on new technologies.

The center is located in the North West Of Glasgow in Victoria Park Ward just off of Clydeside Express way and Dumbarton Road

Availability
Volunteers (aged 14-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
