Generalist Adviser

Citizens Advice Haddington is recruiting several new advisers as we continue to expand our generalist advice provision and support more people across our community.
At long last this bureau has moved into our new High Street offices and with such a move comes the chance to further recruit in our generalist adviser or specialist adviser role.
As an Adviser, you will provide effective, practical, and impartial advice to members of the public, helping people navigate a wide range of issues and challenges.
This is an opportunity to make a real difference to individuals and families within your community. Our clients seek support on a variety of matters, including:
• Benefits and social security
• Housing issues
• Debt and money advice
• Consumer problems
• Employment matters
• Energy and utilities
• Family and relationship issues
• And many other areas of everyday life
Key Responsibilities
• Meet with clients face-to-face, over the telephone, or through other channels.
• Research and provide advice using Citizens Advice guidance and AdviserNet resources.
• Explain options available to clients and help them understand the implications of their choices.
• Provide practical support, including helping clients complete forms, draft letters, and make phone calls.
• Carry out calculations where required, for example when assessing entitlement to benefits.
• Maintain accurate and confidential client records.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers to deliver a high-quality advice service.
We are also keen to hear from experienced advisers with specialist knowledge in particular areas of advice. Specialist Advisers will use their expertise to support clients with more complex cases and could help in contributing to the development and knowledge of the wider team.
Whether you are joining as a Generalist Adviser or bringing specialist expertise, we are committed to supporting your development and provide an extensive training programme to all new recruits as well as the opportunity for further training throughout your time at the bureau.
We are proud to have a fantastic, supportive team of staff and volunteers, and we are looking for people who share our commitment to helping others and making a positive impact in the community.
If you're passionate about helping people, solving problems, and making a real difference, we'd love to hear from you. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions regarding the role.
