Volunteer X-Box Buddy

Quarriers Glasgow Connect is a service dedicated to supporting people with learning and physical disabilities, helping them lead more independent lives. This supported living service focuses on offering personalized care, addressing each individual's unique needs while helping them gain essential life skills. The support provided covers areas such as daily living tasks, health, well-being, and social activities, aiming to promote dignity, respect, and independence.

Time Commitment:
Flexible hours (minimum 2-3 hours per week)
Evenings and weekends available

About the Role:
As an X-Box Buddy, you will be a vital part of enhancing the lives of individuals with learning and physical disabilities by offering them fun, interactive social engagement through gaming. You will share your love of video games while helping participants build social skills, coordination, and confidence in a supportive, inclusive environment.


Key Responsibilities:
Play X-Box games with individuals who use Quarriers Glasgow Connect's services, adapting to their skill levels and interests.
Assist participants in learning game controls and understanding in-game tasks.
Foster a positive, fun, and inclusive gaming environment, encouraging social interaction and teamwork.
Offer guidance and patience when participants require assistance, especially with coordination or technical challenges.
Provide companionship, building rapport with individuals through regular gaming sessions.
Act as an advocate for safe and responsible gaming.


Skills and Qualities Required:
Passion for video games, with good knowledge of X-Box systems and a variety of game genres.
Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude when working with individuals with disabilities.
Strong communication skills, especially when explaining game mechanics and controls.
Willingness to adapt gaming styles to suit different skill levels and physical abilities.
Understanding of the importance of social inclusion and building confidence.
An interest in promoting the benefits of gaming in developing cognitive and social skills.

Training and Support:
All volunteers will receive an induction, including training on working with individuals with disabilities, safeguarding, and the use of assistive technology if needed.
Ongoing support from the Quarriers team to ensure you feel confident in your role.
Additional Information:
Volunteers must be 16 years or older.
A background check (PVG scheme) will be required.
Experience with X-Box is preferred, but not mandatory – enthusiasm for gaming is most important!


Main Tasks



  • Play Xbox games with those in need of some company and friendly competition.

  • Share tips, tricks, and a few laughs while making someone's day brighter.

  • Help build confidence and social skills through gaming.


The Volunteer X-Box Buddy role will be well-supported by Quarriers Glasgow Connect to ensure both the volunteers and the individuals they support have a positive and enriching experience. Here’s how the role will be supported:
