Peer Support Group Helpers

We are looking for volunteers to join our team at our peer support groups for families. Our perinatal and infant mental health and wellbeing peer support programme provides safe and inclusive spaces for families to meet, connect and build supportive networks with other families in the community. Many of our families are facing challenges such as mental health, isolation or neurodiversity. These groups are vital for families to give every child the best start in life and support the whole family.

Our peer support groups offer practical and emotional support from trained volunteer peer supporters with lived experience.

Our aim is for parents/carers to feel supported in their parenting journey, confident, included and heard. Our service is confidential. We have children from birth to 5yrs attend as well as older siblings in school holidays.

Every session is different and most days you will be muti-tasking from welcoming parents, helping with set up or snacks, being creative, having fun playing with the children, listening to parents or being that one adult that the parent has seen or spoken to all week.

Our volunteers have said that it gives them a purpose, helped them feel valued and supported their own wellbeing. Some volunteers have gone onto other volunteering, training or employment and we have supported them with this.

Based in Dunbar and West Barns, we currently have three groups.

Tuesdays 12.30 - 2.30pm - Dunbar
Wednesdays 9am - 12pm - West Barns
Thursdays 9.30 - 11.30am - West Barns - Monthly.

We would like to keep continuity for the parents and children at our groups by supporting families with the same group support workers where possible as this makes families comfortable coming along as they know a friendly face. However we know how difficult it can be to commit to a weekly group. We prefer if you can help us at least once a month, we understand that this isn't always possible.
