Volunteer Tutor

Work one-on-one with a young person who needs support with their learning online. You can choose to tutor once a week, helping primary or secondary pupils re-engage with schoolwork and build skills in Math or English, or opt for twice-weekly sessions to assist secondary students preparing for formal National 3, 4, or 5 qualifications -Relationship building and mentoring -

Monitoring and recording progress of learning and keeping in contact with your assigned VTO Learning Communities Coordinator. -Supporting learning in English and/or Maths and potentially other subjects, dependant on experience and pupil need - Sourcing and creating engaging ways to support pupils’ skills and learning. - You can ask to work with more than one pupil if you have the time available.

We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months from being matched with a young person and ideally until the end of the academic year.

Training details

Volunteer induction training is delivered in a dynamic and interactive online session and a timetable of additional (optional) training is made available throughout the year focussing on topics such as dyslexia, Autism, Care Experience and EAL. You will be allocated a VTO Learning Communities Coordinator to support you whilst volunteering. You will have full access to our online tutor forum where tutors share ideas on how to get the best of their tutoring experience.

Tutors have to complete a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
