Chair Person

Do you enjoy managing teams?

Are you good at bringing out the best in people?

Do you have 2 hours a week to spare?

If the answer to the above is YES, then why not join our passionate, dedicated team in the role of Chair?

SiMY is a vibrant and dynamic organisation who are celebrating our 25th year supporting young people and their families in Townhead, Glasgow. We are committed to improving the mental, physical, and social wellbeing in the communities we serve. We offer after school clubs, school holiday programmes, and in school activities that prioritise time in nature, enabling participants to benefit from scientifically proven health benefits. This includes activities such as forest and hill walks, climbing, biking, wild swimming, gardening, outdoor cooking and creative art sessions.

As our Chair, you will play an exciting role in ensuring the long term stability and integrity of our organisation.

The Chair in SiMY is responsible for leading the Board in the traditional role of a Chairperson. The Board currently consists of six Trustees and focuses on our strategic goals, overseeing the charity's aims and ensuring appropriate governance standards in line with OSCR requirements which you will be familiar with.

You must be able to dedicate between 6-9 hours per month to the role and are required to attend our monthly board meetings which take place between 7pm-9pm on a Wednesday evening. The majority of these meetings are held over Zoom however you will be required to attend face to face meetings at times too. In person meetings usually take place in our Firhill St office in Maryhill or at Lister St Bowling Green in Townhead where our activities take place.

Your duties as Chair include;
Organising and chairing monthly board meetings and our annual general meeting (AGM).
Maintaining an overview of the actions agreed in board meetings and the progress made against these actions - reporting this progress at
monthly board meetings.
Complying with all charities trustee duties as defined by OSCR, the Scottish Charity Regulator.
Supporting fundraising activities and the promotion of the charity.

The role of Chair will afford you the opportunity to hone the skills you already have which in turn will help secure the long term wellbeing of a much loved small charity based in Townhead. You will meet and volunteer along side an enthusiast and diverse group of staff and volunteers, all of whom are extremely passionate about the work we do and the impact that it has on the young people we work with.
