Companion Volunteer

Our popular Companion Role allows volunteers to see firsthand the meaningful and direct impact they are making on the lives of the people we support.

Each volunteer in our Companion Team dedicates 3 hours per week to offering one-on-one support and companionship to individuals with terminal illnesses and their families, making a tremendous difference in their community.

Offer a listening ear
Engage in uplifting conversations
Provide emotional support
Spend quality time with the person you’re supporting, whether in their home, care homes, or out in the community.
Help caregivers by giving them short breaks to rest and recharge.
Accompany clients to medical appointments, short outings, or walks, helping them stay active and connected.


Full training and ongoing support will ensure you feel confident in this role.
Flexible scheduling options available to accommodate your availability.

Travel details

When matching you with someone we will take into account your ability to travel.

Travel expenses

Reasonable out of pocket expenses are reimbursed. This includes travel by the use of your own vehicle, or public transport. Expenses are paid monthly directly to the volunteer.

Support
Training details

Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers wishing to apply and wishing to gain further experience in the caring industry. We provide all training necessary covering all information relevant to the role.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18

Frequency & commitment
3 hours per week is desirable. We are dedicated to finding the right fit to suit your schedule.

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
