Volunteer Disability Advisors

C.O.D (Council on Disability) aim to reach as many people as we can to enable them to receive the disability benefits they are entitled to. We remove the perceived hassle of filling in forms and support clients through the various stages of application from start to finish.

Volunteer Disability Advisors assistant with applications for all the disability benefits - Child Disability Payment, Adult Disability Payment, Attendance Allowance as well as Capability for work forms for Universal Credit and Employment and Support Allowance. Volunteers also assist with other forms, such as housing applications, carers support payment, and blue badges. Council on Disability have disputed refusal of benefits and, in some cases, taken it to the end stage of the first-tier tribunal.

As part of this advising and support role, volunteers will also advise on aids/adaptations to help in the home and can provide a confidential listening ear where a client may need emotional support – though volunteers are not counsellors. Clients are supported through the necessary processes and are never rushed through the forms, creating an understanding and helpful environment.

This is a great role to gain skills, knowledge and confidence. You will learn a lot and develop skills that are very transferable to paid roles, as well as meeting a lot of fantastic people and making a direct impact to someone’s life.
