Volunteer Tutor for 8-week Programme

VTO provides free one to one tuition to children and young people (aged between 8-18) to help tackle the attainment gap. We work with young people from diverse backgrounds including those from low-income families, care experience, EAL, or those faced with perceived barriers to learning. Our volunteers are responsible for developing a person-centred tutoring experience. A key part of this role is relationship building, mentoring, instilling confidence, and empowering young people through education.

We are reaching out as we currently have a volunteering opportunity for our Learning Hubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

This is a short-term opportunity from April until mid-June; for a total of about 8 to 9 weeks. You would be required to attend the hub each week and work 1-1 with a primary-aged pupil supporting them with their homework and reading. If you think you would be able to help at one (or more) of the hubs, please apply using the link provided or reach out to us so that we can help. Please note, that there is no obligation to continue after the hubs finish in June.

What will I be doing?

-Supporting a primary-aged child one-to-one.
-Assisting VTO Staff with the overall management of the learning hub.
-Helping children with their homework and in the areas of numeracy and literacy
-When will I be volunteering?

Weekly for approximately 1.5 hours at your agreed Learning Hub, the hubs run on one weekday evening after school. The following learning hubs are confirmed to be running during the volunteering programme and you can choose to attend one or more:
Saracen Street Primary School & St. Teresa's Primary School (Possilpark Parish Church)

-Springburn Parish Church
-St. Charles' Primary School
-Possilpoint Community Centre
-Easterhouse Kelvin College Campus
-Barrowfield Community Centre
-Adelphi Centre

Support:

You will be allocated a VTO Learning Communities Coordinator to support you whilst volunteering.
