Special Constable with Police Scotland opportunities throughout Scotland

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer with Police Scotland?

With a long and impressive history. The special constable role is a part-time, volunteer opportunity where members of the public can maximise their spare time supporting their communities. Not only will you support the vision of Police Scotland for safer communities, less crime, and supporting victims. You will be joining a thriving workforce which may offer opportunities for a new career.

As a special constable, you will be given identical powers to that of a police officer, who you will work alongside and at times that best suit you.


If you are interested in volunteering up to 96 hours per year, learning new skills, forging strong partnerships in the community, preventing crime, and making a real difference in the community you love, then this is the role for you.


Our special constables come from all walks of life including professionals, parents, teachers, students, and from sectors such as retail, transport, finance, engineering, and many, many more.


If you are over 18 years old, physically fit, and have lived in the United Kingdom for a minimum of three years at the point of application. You could already have the skills we need.


No formal qualifications or drivers’ licence is required for this role. However, you will undergo an exam style ‘police-standard entrance test’, medical assessment, and vetting checks to ensure that you meet the high standards required.

Travel details

If successfully appointed. You will be stationed at a police office that suits you.

Travel expenses

When appointed. All travel expenses to and from your volunteering commitments with Police Scotland will be reimbursed.

In addition, reasonable refreshment expenses can also be made available.

Support
Training details

If successful. 7 consecutive days will be required to attend one of our training centres for your basic training. Once this is completed. You can arrange to volunteer on whichever day and time that best suits your current lifestyle.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
All applicants for the Special Constable role must be physically fit where you will be required to partake in a multi-stage fitness assessment. We are also committed to equal opportunities for anyone neurodiversity condition

You can volunteer as little as 2-4 Hours per day minimum up to 96+ hours per year.

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
