Cafe Assistant Volunteer

The Cafe Assistant Volunteer supports the operations of the café, providing a welcoming and friendly environment for customers, and assisting with food and beverage preparation, service, and café maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:


  1. Customer Service:
    o Greet customers with a friendly and welcoming attitude.
    o Take orders and answer any questions customers may have about the menu.
    o Provide assistance with food and beverage recommendations.
    o Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering excellent service and handling any concerns promptly.

  2. Food & Beverage Preparation:
    o Assist with the preparation of food and beverages according to café recipes or guidelines (e.g., preparing sandwiches, salads, coffee, or smoothies).
    o Ensure all food items are prepared and presented in a safe, sanitary, and appealing manner.
    o Help with food assembly or packaging for takeout orders.

  3. Cash Register & Transactions:
    o Operate the cash register, process payments, and issue receipts.
    o Handle cash, credit card payments, or other forms of payment accurately and efficiently.
    o Maintain an organised cash register.

  4. Cleaning & Organisation:
    o Help keep the café area clean and organised, including cleaning tables, chairs, counters, and restocking supplies as needed.
    o Assist with maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen or prep areas, washing dishes, and sanitizing equipment.
    o Ensure all food safety and cleanliness standards are followed.


Stocking & Inventory:
o Help with receiving and stocking deliveries of food, beverages, and supplies.
o Monitor inventory levels and notify the supervisor when items need to be replenished.
5. Teamwork & Communication:
o Work effectively with other volunteers and staff to ensure smooth café operations.
o Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding any issues or needs.

Experience required

o Friendly, approachable, and customer-oriented demeaner.
o Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
o Basic knowledge of food safety and cleanliness standards.
o Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
o Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Preferred:
o Previous experience in a café, restaurant, or customer service role.
o Barista skills or experience with preparing coffee and espresso drinks (optional).
o Ability to operate a cash register or point-of-sale system.
