Volunteer Café Assistant

The Volunteer Café Support Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the operations of Cornerstone Café, which serves as a welcoming space for local people to enjoy breakfasts, lunches and refreshments five days per week. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the community by providing a friendly environment where visitors can relax and enjoy their food and drink.

Volunteers will be involved in greeting and serving café visitors, ensuring a welcoming and friendly environment and assisting with preparing and serving light snacks and meals. The role also involves maintaining cleanliness of the café area, including clearing tables, washing dishes and ensuring all surfaces are clean and sanitised. Furthermore, some volunteers will be involved in supporting staff to monitor stock levels of café supplies and inform the supervisor when replenishments are needed. Collaborative working with staff and other volunteers is required to ensure smooth café operations and supporting special events as needed.

Experience required

Volunteers should be able to portray a friendly and approachable demeanour and exhibit excellent communication skills with customers. They should also be reliable and responsible with an ability to work well within a team and support colleagues.

Willingness to assist with a variety of tasks and adapt to changing needs are also important attributes, with understanding of basic food hygiene practices also desirable.
