Native English Speakers to Meet with Students Online for Conversation Practice.

Volunteer Opportunity: Help Students Practice English Online!

Bloody Amazing is a Scottish teacher-led social enterprise that design and delivers workshops on all things menstrual cycle health and menopause in schools, community venues, and corporate settings, with a focus on connection, inclusivity, and sustainability.

Are you looking for a meaningful and rewarding way to make a difference? We’re looking for friendly volunteers to have informal online conversations with students who are learning English.

Many students in Glasgow are eager to improve their speaking skills and to build confidence, and a simple chat with a kind and patient English speaker can make all the difference! No teaching experience is needed and we will provide training and support. All you need is a willingness to listen, chat, and encourage.

Whether you can spare 30 minutes a week or more, your time will help students grow, learn, and connect. Plus, you’ll meet wonderful people from different cultures and enjoy enriching conversations!

It would be ideal if volunteers could commit to a minimum of 6 months but we understand that people's circumstances can change. Please just let us know the length of time you can commit to.

We will provide a short induction on Zoom which will include Trauma-Informed Practice, and how best to support the students with conversational English.
All volunteers will be given information on the students they are matched with. This will include the level of English and student interests.
You will also have access to Conversational Prompts but please note: you are not required to be proficient regarding your knowledge and understanding of English grammar and you won't be asked to teach. You are applying only to provide conversational practice.

The days and times you volunteer will be by agreement between the student and the volunteer so you can determine your own availability.
Ideally, we'd ask for 2 x 20-30 minute sessions per week.

Ongoing support will be provided to volunteers with a Zoom Volunteer Staff Room every month. This is your opportunity to share experiences and new ideas.

If you are interested, hit the apply button below or fill out this quick application form: https://forms.gle/4SyqHQ89aUsGHzN78

We will get back to you soon!

If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on info@volunteerglasgow.org.

After you apply, we will arrange a short meeting with you online and, if you wish to proceed, we'll book you in for your induction.

Experience required

You should be a native English speaker. We are looking for volunteers who will be kind, patient and non-judgemental to support our learners who are predominantly refugees. You do not require previous experience as training and ongoing support will be given.
You don't need any previous experience as full training and on-going support will be provided.
