Volunteer ESOL Teachers & Assistants Needed – Support African Relief in Pollok

Are you passionate about teaching and making a difference in your community? African Relief Support is looking for enthusiastic Volunteer ESOL Teachers and Teaching Assistants to help deliver English classes at Leithland Community Centre in Pollok.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support asylum seekers and vulnerable groups by improving their English skills, boosting confidence, and helping them integrate into the local community.

About African Relief Support
We are dedicated to reducing poverty and supporting vulnerable individuals in Glasgow through emergency food parcels, ESOL classes, and tailored support services.


About the Role
We currently run grammar-focused English classes while providing a safe and encouraging space for learners to practice their language skills. We need volunteers to:
-Assist with 1-2-1 beginner sessions (2 hours mins each)
-Support intermediate and advanced classes (2-hour sessions)
-Teach vocabulary, pronunciation, and everyday topics such as family, food, numbers, and colours
-Use provided lesson plans, PowerPoints, worksheets, and homework materials


No formal teaching qualifications are required—just a passion for helping others! We provide full training, including:
-Teaching techniques & online teaching guidance
-How to handle classroom challenges
-Ongoing support, materials, and weekly check-ins


Time Commitment
-1-2 hours per week (flexible scheduling, with the option to split sessions into 20-minute blocks) Monday 10 am -12 noon and expected commitment is 1 year.
-Classes run until summer, with a review in June

Leithland Neighbourhood Centre, located at 25 Kempsthorn Road, Glasgow, G53 5SR, is accessible via several public transport options:

By Bus:
Crookston Road: Approximately a 10-minute walk from the centre. Served by bus routes 3, X8, 22, 49, and 153.

Crookston Castle, Pollok: About a 5-minute walk away. Served by bus routes 49 and 153.
By Train:
Crookston Station: Approximately a 30-minute walk from the centre. Served by ScotRail's Paisley Canal line.
By Car:
The centre is accessible via the M77 motorway, approximately 1 mile from Junction 2.
