Sorting donations at Starter Packs Glasgow

Starter Packs Glasgow supports people moving into new tenancies (usually after homelessness) with packs of household essentials to allow them to get settled into their new home quickly, alleviate poverty and the anxiety that goes with it and help break the cycle of homelessness. We are supported in our work by our two cracking charity shops, The Magpie's Eye and The Magpie's Nest, which are both self-sustaining, allowing us to carry out our work and are also a resource for the community.

Our team is constantly dealing with donations that come in daily, and is responsible for making sure any items that we can use in our starter packs come up to our office, and the items that we don't use in packs are sorted into each of our two shops depending on what type of stock it is. Our donations sorting room is in the back of our Magpie's Nest shop (25 Burleigh Street, G51 3LA) and this is where all of the donations come to in order to be sorted out into which part of the organisation they should be sent to.

From sorting through donations and pricing up items to helping us re-stock and sell across both shops, volunteers will be joining a great family here doing a brilliant service.

Offering flexibility in terms of the amount of hours you can offer, our shops are open Monday to Saturday 9.30-5.30pm with flexibility across that week. No amount of time is too small and we are incredibly grateful to all our volunteers. Its a great opportunity to work alongside some great folks in our team and gain some new experience and skills for the CV.

In return for your help, you will be joining a wonderful team who have a lot of laughs alongside the important work they do. Alongside a Starter Packs T-shirt, tea and coffee are always on the boil along with a 25% volunteer shop discount if you see anything you'd like to buy. We get wonderful and varied donations so there's probably bound to be something that catches your eye!

Experience required

No specific skills are required as training in how to sort donations safely will be given, but having good attention to detail and organisational skills are helpful.
