Treasurer

At Birkhill House is a Community Interest Company (CIC). This means that we exist specifically for community benefit as a social enterprise. Our overarching objective is to improve the wellbeing of visitors, particularly those who are vulnerable. We place mindfulness, wellness and positivity at the core of our three distinct programmes of activity (modern & traditional crafting, horticulture and animal assisted activity) and offer a fully funded programme of workshops alongside commercial or subsidised activities

At Birkhill House CIC is governed by a board of directors led by Lara Armitage, main Director (employed role). The five remaining directors are volunteers. The Board meets several times per year. Meetings are held online and in person.

We are looking to recruit an qualified Accountant to strengthen our Board and take on the role of Treasurer.


Specific tasks:
· overseeing the financial business of the organisation
· reporting accordingly to the Board (eg; preparing bi-monthly reports)
· advising the Director on financial matters
· attending bi- monthly Board meetings
· chairing the Finance subgroup, which also meets on a bi- monthly basis
· preparing the annual accounts in conjunction with our appointed accounting firm
· preparing financial information and forecasts for funding applications.


Commitment
The Accountant would be required to attend evening meetings on a monthly basis giving a time commitment of approximately six hours a month for three years.


Experience required

Skills and Experience:
Qualified Accountant with financial experience.
Experience of assessing and managing financial risk.
Experience of CIC accounting procedures.
An understanding of relevant legislation, notably OSCR and SORPS.
Although not essential some experience of governance in a voluntary sector organisation would be desirable.
