Walk Leader for EDLC

Our Walk Well programme is an ideal way to keep physically active as well as being fun, free, and sociable. We have 13 Health walks already established across the area which last between 30 minutes to an hour and regularly we attract 10 plus participants a week.
EDLC supports a network of Health Walks across East Dunbartonshire, supported by Paths for All and the NHS. Our walks are free of charge and offer a range of benefits including improved fitness, mood, and social interaction. We are looking to recruit walk leaders who will lead the Health Walks.

As a walk leader you can enable people to walk together in a safe, friendly, and supportive way, which in turn helps maintain the health and social wellbeing of your local community.
We invite potential volunteers who aren't already involved, to join us for a few walks (as a walker) before committing to volunteering to give you a chance to experience a Health Walk in action and to get more of a feel for the role and its responsibilities. Planning and leading regular walks, often jointly with other walk leaders. You will be welcoming walkers and helping to create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Briefing walkers about the route and any identified risks. Supporting new and less experienced participants to build their confidence and motivation.
Carrying out site visits to check out routes, completing risk assessments of new routes and reporting any serious incidents. Skills development for the volunteers include leadership, management, and communication skills. They have the chance to meet new people, socialise with other volunteers and be part of a team.

Experience required

A confident walker with knowledge of local routes.

Someone who is friendly, welcoming and has an encouraging attitude with the ability to motivate and support others.

The ability to work as a member of a team and is sensitive to others needs and able to assess someone's general wellbeing and walking ability.

No experience is necessary but looking for an individual with a positive can-do attitude who will encourage people to reach their fitness/social goals.
