Background and Purpose
The Hub Café exists to support the mental health recovery and well-being of individuals using the acute psychiatric services at Gartnavel Royal Hospital. It also welcomes visitors, staff, and partner organizations such as the Mental Health Network, Common Wheel, and Project Ability. The café provides access to food and drink and serves as a space for live performances, activities, consultations, information sharing, and exhibitions—operating during the day, evenings, and weekends.
By volunteering at the Hub Café, you’ll be part of an award-winning team that fosters a warm, inclusive environment. The café is a valued space for in-patients, staff, visitors, and walkers on the Gartnavel site.
The café currently offers a selection of ready-prepared sandwiches, savory and sweet treats, and hot and cold drinks.
Opening Hours & Volunteer Shifts
Currently, the café is open Monday to Thursday from 10 AM – 3 PM, with plans to expand to a five-day and eventually a six-day week between April and October.
Morning shift: 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Afternoon shift: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
In addition to serving refreshments, the Hub Café hosts social activities, performances, and entertainment aimed at supporting in-patients' mental well-being.
Volunteers are expected to be independent, able to travel on their own, and comfortable working alone or in pairs.
This initiative encourages people from all backgrounds to share the space, regardless of their mental health status. Volunteer involvement is a new step forward, and as a café volunteer, you'll be part of a dedicated team committed to mental health recovery. Your role will help create a friendly and welcoming environment, benefiting everyone who uses the café.
