Lead Companion Volunteer – Greater Glasgow and Clyde
Are you passionate about helping others, well-connected in your community, and great at organising? Marie Curie is looking for Lead Companion Volunteers to help us grow our Companion Service and bring comfort to people affected by terminal illness.

What is the Companion Service?
The Companion Service offers weekly emotional and practical support to people living with a terminal illness — through friendly chats, help with everyday tasks, or simply being there for someone who might otherwise be alone.

About the Lead Companion Volunteer Role
-We're looking for volunteers with great local knowledge and organisational skills who can spare up to 4 hours per week.


In this key role, you will:
-Carry out short assessment meetings with people who have been referred to the service.
-Introduce clients to the trained volunteers we've matched them with.
-Promote the service by speaking to local organisations and services about what we offer.
-Support Companion Volunteers and help ensure the smooth delivery of care and companionship.
This is an ideal role for someone who wants to help end loneliness and isolation for people facing terminal illness and their carers.

Experience required

Skills You’ll Need
-A mature and sensible outlook, with the ability to talk comfortably with people from all walks of life
-Strong organisational skills and confidence in following policies and procedures
-An open-minded, client-centred approach, always putting the needs of the people we support first
-Good local knowledge of Glasgow and the surrounding areas, including relevant community organisations
-An understanding (or interest in learning) about health and social care services
-Basic

Travel details

This opportunity covers the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area and will require some home based activity and some activity out in the community.

Travel expenses

Expenses can be claimed for travel including mileage in your own vehicle and for other agreed activities. These will be reimbursed monthly by bank transfer.
