Public Advisor Volunteers (Aberdeen and Glasgow)

*What’s this about?
Researchers are looking to recruit members of the public to advise on a new study which will explore the pros and cons of allowing bars or nightclubs to open later (in the early hours of the morning) in Aberdeen and Glasgow cities.

*What’s involved?
If you sign up at https://forms.gle/Go9Fff2qP2SBRTLf6 we will arrange to meet with you a couple of times a year as part of a local group (online or in person) which will also include professionals with an interest in the study. There will be separate groups for Aberdeen and Glasgow. The study runs until December 2025 and we’d like your advice over that time.

*Who are we looking for?
We’d like people who:
-are residents living near to late night bars/clubs or nightclubs, or customers that regularly attend late night bars/clubs or nightclubs in Aberdeen City or Glasgow City centre
OR
-residents who lived near to or customers who attended late night bars/clubs or nightclubs that were open between 2018 and 2020 in Aberdeen City or Glasgow City centre

*What support is being offered?
Group members will be reimbursed £25 per hour to cover the costs of each meeting attended, including preparation time, up to a maximum of £80 per meeting.
Meetings are expected to last 1-2 hours and the payment offered will vary accordingly, taking into account whether you are asked to read any paperwork outside of the meeting time.
Travel expenses for public transport can also be made available where needed.

*What would I have to do?
-Share your local knowledge of the area and the late night bars/clubs
-Helping us to make sure our materials are easy to understand
-Let us know what’s important to you about the future of night-time entertainment in Aberdeen or Glasgow so that we can include that in our interviews with others.

*Who runs the group?
Dr. Andrea Mohan from the University of Dundee will run the group on behalf of the ELEPHANT study. ELEPHANT stands for ‘Evaluating Later and Expanded Premises Hours in the Night Time economy’ and is led by Professor Niamh Fitzgerald from the University of Stirling.
