Charity Trustee

Asylum and Refugee Care (AARC) is a growing, relatively new charity (established in April 2023). This is therefore an exciting opportunity to play an active role in the governance of AARC. We are looking for individuals with experience in governance, finance, promotion/fundraising, or related skills, to become trustees. We are currently a small team of trustees, wanting to grow in size and experience as a team.

While we are looking for these specific skills, it’s most important that trustees’ values align with AARC’s values. This includes a strong desire to promote the welfare of individuals seeking asylum. This includes promoting integration into society, access of services (strongly advocating where this is needed), and addressing inequalities.

As well as attending monthly trustee meetings where updates are shared and decisions made, you will have the opportunity to get involved with the particular areas you're more passionate or skilled in. Along with other trustees, you will be able to shape AARC's structures and systems which contribute to its smooth running, and in turn to positively impacting service user's lives.

For more information or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at email: trustees@aarc.charity or telephone: 07392856117

Experience required

AARC invites individuals who are passionate about the welfare of individuals seeking asylum and with refugee status, to consider this role. In particular, please apply if you have skills/experience in governance, finance, fundraising/promotion, systems, or related skills.

Travel details

Trustee meetings and most work will take place at AARC's office, in Aberdeen (accessible by bus). Transport to trustee meetings can be reimbursed where this is needed.

Support
Training details

Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers. We ask prospective trustees to attend approximately 3 trustee meetings to get a flavour of AARC and to decide if it's a good fit. After this, you would apply to become a member, before being invited to become a trustee. Trustee training will be provided.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 16

Frequency & commitment
We ask that if you’re considering being a trustee, you’re able to commit to a monthly trustee meeting plus approximately 3 hours a week to take part in a subcommittee and/or support with other actions. We currently meet on the last Tuesday of each month. All help makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated.

Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
