Community Wish Maker (Edinburgh)

Volunteering details

Right now, 76 children in Scotland are waiting for their life-changing wish, and we urgently need volunteers to help us to raise the funds to make these dreams come true.

As a Community Wish Maker living in Edinburgh or the surrounding areas, you'll be the spark that drives our fundraising efforts! You could take on tasks to reach out to local businesses, schools, and organizations, inspiring them to donate. Or you might want to organize exciting events and inspire others to do the same (you could even sign up to volunteer in this role as a local group of friends/colleagues and do it together!)

Through your talks, conversations and online interactions in your area, you'll highlight the profound impact a wish has on a critically ill child and their family, encouraging your community to donate.

The best part? Every penny you help us to raise as a volunteer will be spent directly on granting wishes in Scotland only. Your efforts will ensure that local children who are waiting right now can experience the wonder and hope a wish brings. Is there anything more rewarding than making a child's wish come true?!

Join us today to receive full training, support and and be part of something truly special in your community. Help make wishes come true for children in Scotland!
As a Community Wish Maker, you’ll play a key role in bringing your community together to make magic happen for children in need. Here are some examples of how you can help:
Inspire Events: Encourage your community to host fun events like bake sales, quiz nights, family fun days, or create your own—and get everyone involved!
Engage Your Network: Rally friends, family, schools, and workplaces to support and attend local events that fund wishes in your area.
Partner Locally: Connect with local businesses, pubs, restaurants, and sports clubs to sponsor or host events, donate, or provide venues to help fund wishes
Encourage Local Support: Invite local clubs, groups, companies, and organizations to choose Make-A-Wish UK as their charity of the year and help fund wishes in your community.
Give Talks: Inspire fundraising support by giving talks at local schools, businesses, and community groups, sharing the life-changing impact of a wish.
Utilize social media: Use social platforms to approach societies and groups, encouraging them to fundraise for Make-A-Wish UK and support local wishes
Make Funding Applications: Apply for local grants and funding to ensure more wishes are granted.
Organize Cashless Collections: Team up with fellow volunteers to set up cashless collections, making it easier for everyone to donate.
Promote Events: Spread the word through social media, posters, and word-of-mouth to build excitement and get your community involved
Collaborate: Work with other volunteers and Make-A-Wish staff to create unforgettable experiences. Want to team up with friends? Let’s do it!
Celebrate Success: Share your milestones and stories to inspire others to join in and help make wishes come true!
